Meet Jocey — Owner & Designer

My career in fashion began in 1990, when I studied for a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design at RMIT. Since then, I’ve spent more than 30 years working across almost every area of the industry - as a designer, buyer, product developer, pattern maker, retailer and ecommerce business owner.

For two decades, I worked with established brands and private labels, developing collections for major retailers and independent boutiques. I later spent seven years running my two Melbourne boutiques, known for their curated mix of international and hard-to-find labels.

My experience also includes working as a buyer for a major international retailer with more than 1,000 stores worldwide, as well as designing and producing hospitality uniforms.

Owning and shaping a brand of my own had always been a dream. When the opportunity came to take over Salt + Soda in 2024, it felt like the right fit. I had long admired the brand, and its focus on relaxed, easy-to-wear fashion which aligned naturally with my own values and experience.

As I’ve grown older within the fashion industry, I’ve become increasingly aware of how much of fashion is still designed around youth and smaller bodies. I kept asking: where are the brands designing for women like me?

I usually wear a size 14–16, but I need considerably more room through the bust. Finding clothes that accommodate a fuller bust without becoming tight, restrictive or unflattering can be incredibly difficult. I don’t feel confident in fitted clothing, and I know what it is like to spend the day feeling self-conscious about what you are wearing.

That lived experience now influences every Salt + Soda collection. I work collaboratively with our trusted makers, building on the original spirit of the brand while thoughtfully developing styles for comfort, movement, coverage and beautiful drape.

I want to create clothes that work with a woman’s body rather than asking her body to fit the clothes — pieces that feel relaxed without looking shapeless, comfortable without feeling overly casual, and stylish without trying to make us look younger than we are.

Salt + Soda is for women who still care deeply about how they look, but who also want to feel comfortable, confident and completely themselves.
